Our Agreements: Creating the Best Environment for Your Healing

At Holina, we don't call them "house rules" - we call them agreements. These aren't restrictions designed to control; they're supportive boundaries designed to protect your healing and the healing of everyone around you. Think of them as the container that allows deep work to happen.

Creating a Safe, Alcohol & Drug-Free Environment

Recovery requires a clear mind and a regulated nervous system. That's why Holina is alcohol and drug-free.

This isn't judgement. It's therapeutic necessity. When you're processing trauma, releasing stored emotions, or allowing your nervous system to find safety again, substances—whether alcohol, recreational drugs, or non-prescribed medication—interfere with that process. They disrupt nervous system regulation and can re-traumatise or trigger old patterns.

An alcohol and drug-free environment protects everyone's recovery. It creates the conditions for genuine nervous system healing to take place.

We understand that recovery is individual. If you're on prescribed medications managed by your doctor, that's different. We work case-by-case with our medical team to ensure your specific needs are honoured. The goal is always your healing, not rigid rule-following.

Mindful Technology Use

Mobile phones and laptops are permitted at Holina - we understand you may need them for work, family contact, or staying connected to your life outside.

At the same time, we encourage mindful use. Screens, notifications, and digital stimulation can overstimulate a nervous system that's working hard to find safety and regulation. Many guests find that reducing screen time—especially in evenings—supports deeper sleep and faster integration of their healing work.

We're not asking you to disconnect completely. We're inviting you to be intentional about when and how you use technology during your stay. Your case manager can help you find the balance that works for you.

Designated Smoking Areas

Smoking and vaping are permitted at Holina, but only in designated outdoor areas away from therapeutic spaces and other guests.

This protects the air quality in shared healing spaces and respects guests who are working on their health and recovery. It also keeps our meditation rooms, therapy spaces, and dining areas as clean, peaceful sanctuaries.

Family Visits & Outside Visitors

We welcome family connection and support—it's often part of successful recovery. Family visits can be arranged through your case manager.

This simply means we coordinate timing with your treatment schedule, ensure your therapy isn't interrupted, and create space for meaningful connection without disrupting the healing environment for others.

Commitment to Your Programme

We recommend a minimum of 14–28 days for meaningful, sustainable results. This is based on trauma neuroscience, not arbitrary timing. Your nervous system needs time to genuinely shift out of stress mode and into regulation.

That said, we're realistic. Sometimes life happens. If you need to leave early, we work with you and your case manager on continuity and aftercare. What matters most is that you engage authentically during whatever time you do spend.

We'd rather have a truly committed 14-day stay than a reluctant 28-day one. Let's talk honestly about what duration feels realistic and sustainable for you.

Participation & Personalisation

Your programme is personalised to your needs. Daily therapeutic sessions are structured around your specific healing goals, not group schedules.

We ask that you engage with intention. Show up to your sessions. Be present. Do the work. Some days will be uncomfortable—that's part of trauma processing. Some days will feel miraculous. Both are part of recovery.

If something isn't working or you need an adjustment, tell us. Your case manager is there to support you in real-time, not enforce rigid programmes.

Confidentiality & Privacy

Holina is a private, confidential space. What happens here stays here.

We ask all guests to respect this mutual confidentiality. Photography or recording of other guests, staff, or therapeutic activities isn't permitted—to protect everyone's privacy and the sacred nature of the healing work happening here.

Your own experience, your own story, your own recovery—that's yours to share or not share as you choose.

Practical Respect

- Respect shared spaces: keep common areas peaceful and clean
- Be considerate of other guests' rest and healing time, especially during designated quiet hours
- Participate in the rhythms of the centre: meal times, therapy schedules, group activities (unless adjusted with your case manager)
- Care for our facilities as you would your own home

When Something Isn't Working

If you have concerns, questions, or need adjustments—tell us. Your case manager is available 24/7. We're not here to enforce compliance. We're here to support your healing.

If there's a genuine incompatibility between your needs and what Holina can offer, we'll discuss that honestly. But most of the time, when communication happens early, we can find a way forward together.
