About venue
Welcome to Iringa, Tanzania - where raw, untamed beauty meets quiet, barefoot luxury. Designed for visionary yoga and wellness leaders, our exclusive-use sanctuary is a space where transformation unfolds naturally. From our first conversation to your final savasana, every detail is held with care, so you can stay fully present with your community. Rooted in nature, culture, and connection, Origins Africa is more than a venue - it’s a sacred container for truly unforgettable retreats.
Your Vision, Our Support: A retreat space shaped around you.
At Origins Africa, our close-knit teams in the UK and Tanzania work together to support every part of your retreat - before, during, and after. Leading a retreat takes intention, but you don’t have to carry it all alone.
From the moment you connect with us, you’re supported by an experienced in-house team that can handle everything: airport transfers, guest coordination, nourishing meals, daily logistics, and curated experiences like safaris and cultural immersions. No outsourcing. No middlemen. Just one aligned team bringing your vision to life.
We know every teacher leads differently. Some want to shape each detail, others prefer to focus fully on teaching. However you work, we meet you there - with thoughtful guidance, clear communication, and deep local knowledge. When you host your retreat with Origins Africa, you step into a partnership grounded in trust, care, and a shared belief in the power of meaningful experience.
Our Story: Edinburgh-born, Tanzania-rooted. Designed for Yoga Teachers.
Origins Africa is an Edinburgh-based company with deep roots in Tanzania. Led by founder Dave Brown - who has spent nearly two decades crafting exceptional human experiences across Africa- we exist to support yoga teachers in creating retreats that are inspiring, authentic, and rich in connection.
Since 2012, our team has been building lodges that celebrate the continent’s wild beauty and unique charm. Origins Africa is the culmination of that work - purpose-built from the ground up to host transformational retreats. Every detail has been shaped with intention, and brought to life by the incredible craftsmanship of our local team.
We’ve poured our hearts into creating a space where teachers can lead with presence and ease - and we can’t wait to welcome you.

A Wild Extension to Your Retreat.
Just beyond our sanctuary lies Ruaha National Park - a place where lions roar at dusk, ancient baobabs reach skyward, and the earth feels ancient beneath your feet. One of East Africa’s most biodiverse regions, Ruaha is home to elephant herds, leopards, kudu, and over 570 bird species. Our safari extension includes private game drives, al-fresco bush picnics, and the option to stay overnight at our partner safari lodge - a soul-stirring add-on that complements any retreat.

Join Chef Diana in the retreat kitchen for a hands-onTanzanian cooking class. Learn to prepare traditional dishes using fresh ingredients straight from the retreat gardens, while exploring new stories and techniques. Enjoy a warm, authentic experience that ends with a delicious shared meal.

We’d be delighted to organise a relaxing trip to a local spa for massages, facials, and rejuvenating treatments.
If your shoulders need a release after all those chaturangas, it’s the perfect way to unwind with a bit of extra pampering.
Healing
Journey into a living lineage of healing.
Travel by 4×4 into a remote tribal village where ancient healing traditions live on. Guided by one of our trusted Retreat Hosts, you’ll step into a world of forest spirits, herbal medicine, and ancestral wisdom - teachings passed down through generations. It’s a rare glimpse into an indigenous approach to wellbeing that mirrors many of the same truths found in yoga and Ayurveda: that healing is holistic, rooted in nature, and profoundly connected to spirit. Held with humility and care, this experience offers your students the chance to see wellness through a wider lens - one that transcends borders, yet speaks to something familiar within.
Tanzania, Transformed: In the quiet luxury of nature, community comes alive.
Far from the tourist trail, our sanctuary invites you deep into the untamed spirit of Tanzania - a land of vibrant colours, rich tradition, and rugged landscapes. Perched above the Great Ruaha Valley and surrounded by native woodlands, this is where practice deepens and purpose expands.
Spaces for Wellness: Practice under wide skies, with the earth beneath your feet.
Lead your retreat in spaces designed to elevate every moment of practice. Our open-air hilltop yoga deck offers breathtaking views over the Great Ruaha River Valley - an unforgettable setting for sunrise flows and evening contemplation. For workshops or restorative practices, our expansive glass-walled studio provides a serene indoor option, complete with a wood-burner and premium equipment to support all styles and levels. After practice, your group can unwind in our wood-fired sauna, rinse off under natural waterfall showers, or enjoy a rejuvenating dip in the saltwater pool. Dotted with hammocks, firepits, and forest paths, the retreat is 4-acres of exclusive-use barefoot luxury.
Where You’ll Stay: Gather, flow and rest in a place made for connection.
Our eight beautiful chalets are crafted from sustainably sourced local eucalyptus and offer elegant, private spaces that connect guests to their natural surroundings. Each chalet features an en-suite bathroom, spacious terrace, and atmospheric log-burning stove. Rooms can be arranged as twin, double, or single occupancy, accommodating up to 16 guests on a shared basis. For those seeking something even more exclusive, the Founder’s Lodge is available by request. This self-contained residence includes two en-suite bedrooms, a kitchen, dining area, and living room - ideal for teachers, facilitators, or small groups - bringing total retreat capacity to an intimate 20 guests. Whether your retreat centers on stillness or dynamic movement, our accommodation offers a comforting foundation for deep rest and relaxation.
Nourishment that Supports Your Practice: Locally Grown. Lovingly Prepared. Shared Together.
Meals at Origins are more than just fuel, they’re a communal experience where conversations flow and connection deepens. Our private chef, Diana, crafts plant-forward menus tailored to your group’s needs and retreat schedule. Every dish features fresh produce, much of it grown in our gardens or sourced from the vibrant local market, where the team can take guests to explore the roots of traditional Tanzanian cooking. In the evenings, your group is welcome to relax in the cosy lounge bar, where local wines and non-alcoholic options are available - perfect for winding down beside the fire.
Eco-Practices: Off-Grid. On-Purpose.
Sustainability is our soul. From solar power to plastic-free water systems, everything here is designed in harmony with nature. Our retreat runs entirely off-grid, built by local artisans with natural, regionally sourced materials. A reverse-osmosis filtration system eliminates plastic waste, whilst our on-site tree nursery regenerates hundreds of wild saplings each year. Tucked into native woodland where monkeys roam freely, the retreat supports the regeneration of this precious ecosystem we’re proud to protect, and privileged to share with you.
